The RMPL is a privately funded public library, open to all who are interested in stamp collecting. Membership is not necessary to use library materials, but it is encouraged because dues are an important part of the yearly income. Members may also have checkout privileges.
The library is committed to promoting and helping to facilitate the pursuit of stamp collecting as a hobby at all levels. Beginners are just as welcome as experienced philatelists.
The library houses 10,000+ books related to stamps, stamp collecting, and postal history. This includes over 800 general and specialized stamp catalogs. Also included are special Colorado and Western history and Railroad History departments. The library also houses 1526 titles of periodicals with over 122,000 individual issues. The library also holds 2000+ auction catalogs that are used for research.
The library hosts three auxiliary national libraries, the Scandinavian Collectors Club, the Society for Czechoslovak Philately, and the Postal Stationary Society. The library also hosts the archives of the Colorado Postal History Society and numerous other local stamp clubs.
More than a dozen stamp clubs and organizations call the RMPL “home,” holding their monthly meetings in our meeting room.
There are always two volunteers on duty during regular hours, ready to assist in the use of the library. Assistance to the general public in the evaluation of collections and advice on avenues of disposing of collections is also available.
